A Six-Session Course for EMDR Clinicians
EMDR with Couples and Families
Two nervous systems. One protocol.
You know the eight phases. This is how they work when there are two people in the room, two histories, and a relationship that is often the thing most in need of repair.
This course is for you if…
- You are trained in EMDR and feel steady working with one person in the room.
- You are seeing, or preparing to see, couples and families.
- You are unsure how to take a history when two people are telling it.
- You are not certain what to target, or how each person's history feeds the pattern between them.
- You have watched reprocessing go sideways because the other partner was present.
- You want to stop switching between a couples model and an EMDR model mid-session.
Teaching, case examples, and clinical tools throughout.
The course runs over roughly six months. Each session combines teaching with worked case examples and tools you can take straight into your next appointment.
Six live sessions
90 minutes each, one Wednesday a month, live on Zoom. Recorded so you can catch up.
Bonus recording
A four-hour recorded training, yours at registration. Not required curriculum, just extra depth.
Clinical tools
A couples treatment planning tool and worksheets from our EF-EMDR Clinician Companion.
Case examples are welcomed and encouraged. Bring the couple who stalled in Phase 4, the partner who cannot stay regulated while the other reprocesses, or the case that is working when you are not sure why.
The framework
The eight phases, with two people in the room.
History and treatment planning
Understanding how each person's experiences shape and influence the pattern, or dance, the couple keeps repeating. Identifying which individual and shared targets are meaningful enough to disrupt engrained patterns and build a new way of relating.
Preparation
Resourcing two nervous systems, and building the couple's capacity to witness each other.
Assessment
Selecting targets that hold both the individual wound and the relational pattern.
Desensitization
Learning the many variations of processing, and how each influences the degree of connection and healing possible. Processing a personal experience affecting the relationship, processing a shared experience, and joint processing.
Installation
Strengthening what is adaptive in the individual and in the relationship.
Body scan
Tracking two bodies, and what co-regulation makes possible.
Closure
Ending so the couple leaves safe with each other, not just individually settled.
Reevaluation
Measuring change in the relationship, not only in the SUD.
